Pingyao
Pingyao is a small city (by Chinese standards although even the old town is bigger than Martigny 🙂 ) between Beijing and Xian. The old town is one of the best preserved in China (or so they say). We spent 6 nights there wandering the streets of the old town by day and by night with a lot of Chinese tourists including visitors to the annual Pingyao photo exhibition, which inspired a lot of snapping…
We wandered from early morning ’til dusk…
And by night (even more people than by day it seemed)…
There were some tensions…
But food quickly sorted things out when we were « hangry »…
Of course there were temples, quiet spaces to get away from the crowds and also to leap about (did the « residents » approve?)…
And the photo exhibition meant we had our 15 minutes of fame – apparently Pingyao has rarely seen a family like ours!
We noted some new construction techniques for Dariol, Jose and all…
The guesthouse was great – a haven of peace to rest our weary feet!
And before long it was time to take the fast train to Xian!
